Zach Braff BIO

Zach-Braff

Since his early childhood, Zach Braff (born April 6th, 1975) has long wanted to be a filmmaker.  Born and raised in New Jersey, Zach Braff attended upstate New York's Stagedoor Manor Performing Arts Training Camp as a teenager and later graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Arts in Film.  His acting career began in New York's public theater in stage productions of William Shakespeare's Macbeth and Twelfth Night.  In 1993, Zach Braff played a guest role on the TV series "The Baby-Sitters Club" and landed the part of Nick Lipton in the Woody Allen film Manhattan Murder Mystery.  Zach Braff would rise from relative obscurity to a household name when he was cast as Dr. John "J.D." Dorian in the long-running television sitcom "Scrubs" which first aired back in 2001.  Although "Scrubs" had made him a multi-nominated Golden Globe TV star, he always intended to return to his love for filmmaking.  Zach Braff would write, direct and star opposite Natalie Portman in the critically acclaimed feature film Garden State in 2004 and would get behind the camera for several "Scrubs" episodes.  Zach Braff has also provided his voice talents for the animated Chicken Little (2005) and starred in the films The Last Kiss (2006) and The Ex (2006).  His current project includes the romantic drama Open Hearts (2008) which he will write, direct and star.
