System of a Down BIO

System-of-a-Down

System of a Down is an alternative rock band from Glendale, California currently consisting of members Serj Tankian (lead vocals, keyboard, rhythm guitar), Daron Malakian (vocals, lead guitar), Shavo Odadjian (bass guitar, backing vocals) and John Dolmayan (drums, percussion).  System of a Down's self-titled 1998 debut album found some early success and radio airplay with their singles "Sugar" and "Spiders".  The band's greatest success would come with the release of their 2001 album, Toxicity, which debuted at #1 and reached multi-platinum status with 6 million copies sold worldwide with hits such as "Aerials", "Toxicity" and "Chop Suey!"  At the end of 2001, a few unreleased and unfinished tracks found their way onto the internet which eventually became a part of System of a Down's third album, Steal This Album! which the band promoted with the single "Innervision".  In 2005, System of a Down released a double album six months apart with both debuting at #1.  The first album, Mezmerize, included hits such as "Question!" and their Grammy Award winning "B.Y.O.B."  The second album, Hypnotize, included singles such as "Lonely Day", "Hypnotize" and "Kill Rock 'N Roll".
