Shakira BIO

Shakira

Shakira (born February 2nd, 1977) is one of the highest-selling Colombian singer/songwriters of all time.  Her first albums, Magia in 1991 and Peligro in 1993 did not fare well commercially, but her third 1996 album, Pies Descalzos, catapulted the young artist into mainstream success in Latin America.  Shakira's fourth album, Dónde Están los Ladrones? in 1998, further expanded Shakira's fanbase with hit singles such as "Ciega, Sordomuda", "Ojos Así", "", "Inevitable" and "No Creo".   In 1999, Shakira released her first live album, MTV Unplugged, which garnered her a Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album.  In 2001, Shakira recorded her first English language album, Laundry Service, and found international success with "Whenever, Wherever" and "Underneath Your Clothes".  After taking a much deserved break, Shakira returned in 2005 with the release of two albums which she called the Oral Fixation project.  The first album, Fijacion Oral Vol. 1, contained the hit singles "La Tortura" and "No".  The second album, Oral Fixation Vol. 2, contained "Don't Bother", "Illegal" and the number one single "Hips Don't Lie".  Fans of Shakira would have to wait four years for the release of her 2009 album She Wolf which has churned out hit after hit including the singles "She Wolf", "Did It Again (Remix)" (featuring Kid Cudi) and "Give It Up to Me" (featuring Lil Wayne).
