Nicolas Cage BIO

Nicolas-Cage

Nicolas Cage (born January 7th, 1964) changed his last name of Coppola to Cage early in his career so as to avoid any claims of nepotism for any success from being the nephew of filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola.  After first appearing in Fast Times at Ridgemont High in 1982, Nicolas Cage landed the role of Randy in the 1983 romantic comedy Valley Girl.  For the decade to follow, he starred in more than a dozen high-profile films such as 1986's Peggy Sue Got Married, 1987's Moonstruck, 1990's Wild at Heart, 1992's Honeymoon in Vegas and 1994's It Could Happen to You.  It would be in 1995 that Nicolas Cage would finally be rewarded with an Academy Award for his moving performance as a suicidal alcoholic in Leaving Las Vegas.  Nicolas Cage has continued to star in compelling dramatic films such as 1998's City of Angels, 2000's The Family Man and 2005's The Weather Man, but has also churned out huge box-office champs such as 1997's Face/Off, 2000's Gone in Sixty Seconds, 2005's National Treasure and 2007's Ghost Rider.  In 2009, Nicolas Cage starred opposite Rose Byrne in the Sci-Fi thriller Knowing and played the drug and gambling addicted detective "Terrence McDonagh" opposite Eva Mendes in Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans.  Nicolas Cage has quite a few projects coming down the pipeline including the actioner Kick-Ass (2010), the 14th-century period thriller Season of the Witch (2010) and the fantasy The Sorcerer's Apprentice (2010).
